The estate wines are the visiting card of the establishment, for this reason elegance and a fine expression of origins are near and dear to our heart in these wines. The grapes all come from our own vineyards, cultivated biodynamically and worked by hand. These are ideal accompanists to fine dining – and not just in the year after the vintage.
The grapes for these ‘villages’ wines were harvested exclusively from sites rated ERSTE LAGE and GROSSE LAGE; these are wines made from very ripe fruit. Concentrated and mineral-driven, they demonstrate the potential of the top vineyards in our region.
VDP.GROSSE LAGE® is the designation for the highest quality vineyards in Rheinhessen, sites that are precisely delineated by parcel. Here the finest wines are grown, with expressive vineyard character and special potential for cellaring.
Harvested in the core parcels of Westhofen’s finest vineyards, vinified in traditional cask or in barrique; these wines spend at least fifteen months maturing on the lees.
Our grapes from organically cultivated vineyards come in part from winegrower friends of ours who live close to our home in the southern Rheinhessen. The grapes are harvested with great care and subsequently fermented in our cellars.
Since its founding in 1670, Weingut Ansgar Clüsserath in Tritteheim on the Mosel has been
owned and operated by the family.
Today, Eva Clüsserath-Wittmann is following in the footsteps of her father, like her husband Philipp Wittmann she is a member of Germany’s new generation of wine-growers. Her wines express the typicality of the slate soils and steep Mosel sites with great finesse and elegance.
