For the Westhofener Riesling, along with grapes from the precisely-delineated core parcels of the VDP.GROSSE LAGE sites Morstein and Brunnenhäuschen, we vinify fruit from neighbouring vineyards as well – vineyards that are classified as VDP.ERSTE LAGE. Here we see the typical limestone minerality of Westhofen in these wines that are characterised by very ripe fruit. Concentrated and mineral-driven, they clearly demonstrate the potential of Westhofen’s finest sites.
THE SOIL
The VDP.ERSTE & VDP.GROSSE LAGE vineyard sites in Westhofen are dominated by heavy clay- marl soils with veins of limestone in the upper stratum. The subsoils are dominated by water-channelling layers of limestone rock.
