Aulerde

Aulerde

THE SITE
THE SITE

Our forebears recognised centuries ago that this south-facing hillside, sloping down toward the village, is a particularly favoured site for winegrowing. Aulerde was first mentioned by name in records as early as 1380. This is our warmest site, where the grapes ripen early.

THE SOIL
THE SOIL

The core of the Aulerde, where our Riesling vines are growing, is composed of heavy clayish marl with minor portions of loess-loam and limestone, while the subsoil consists of yellow and gravelly, sandy clay. Our vines in this site are nearly seventy years old, and planted to great density.
